RYT 200

Ann Arbor, MI

Hi there!

I'm a Southern California native and a recent transplant to Ann Arbor, MI where I teach Islamic Art History to undergrads. I went to college in Seattle, studied abroad in Paris, did my MA in New York, and traveled to Morocco, Jordan, Palestine, and Israel as part of my doctoral studies in Art History which I completed at UCSD in 2018. Clearly I have a love for education, which I brought to my yoga practice in 2017 when I completed my 200 hour YTT at Pilgrimage of the Heart in San Diego.

I first came to yoga after college, but an injury left me believing that my body wasn't built for the practice. Looking for a way to exercise and release stress during graduate school, I gave it another try and, being quite a bit older and (slightly) wiser, learned to listen to my body and make adjustments to build strength to avoid those injuries. This led to a love of yoga that manifests in a daily practice and desire to spread the impact that it has had on my life, as well as the idea that yoga truly is for every body, with others. I'd love for you to be one of them! Scroll down to check out my schedule and practice with me or contact me with any inquiries. I hope to see you soon!

Brands I Love

Inner Fire

I loved the fit and feel of Inner Fire from the first pair I tried. When I learned more about the company, I discovered there was even more to love. Their leggings are made in Canada, from recycled water bottles, and they donate a portion of their profits to The School Fund. It's a bonus that they have an amazing selection of colorful prints! I'm grateful to be one of their amazing luminaries. Check them out on Instagram @myinnerfire and shop their line on their website (use code PHDYOGI for a discount) or on Amazon (use code SaschaCr for a discount)!

There are so many options for yoga apparel out there, sometimes it's really hard to choose - and do you really want to? Wouldn't you rather try a bunch of brands in outfits that were styled specifically for you and your exercise needs and style preferences? Well that's what YogaClub is! YogaClub is a subscription box that delivers you new athletic apparel at a discounted price once a month. When you sign up, you fill out a style survey and then each month an outfit (either 1, 2, or 3 pieces, depending on your subscription) is sent to you! Don't love it? Easily exchange it for something you love. What would make a good thing even better? How about giving back to a good cause? For every box delivered, YogaClub provides a yoga and meditation class to an elementary school kid in Los Angeles' most vulnerable neighborhoods.

Sounds too good to be true, right? Well it gets better. Shop this link and use code phdyogi20 to save 20% off your first box!

As an academic, I spend a ton of time on the computer or standing teaching. And as a person living in the 21st century, I spend way too much time hunched over my phone. All this plus usual life stress means that I have aches and pains in my back that need some self-care. I absolutely LOVE the Pranamat. I use it under my feet while typing on the computer, and lie on it at the end of a long day. It gets the blood circulating in my sore muscles and provides some serious relief. You can find them on Instagram @pranamat and shop their products here. Use code PHDYOGI for 10% off!

Clever Yoga

I’m very picky about my mats, and had been using the same one for a long time when I had the opportunity to try out a mat from Clever Yoga. I’m always skeptical about new mats - I sweat a LOT and so it’s hard for me to find a mat that I don’t slip and slide on. At the same time, I have sensitive joints and so I need a mat that will have enough cushion to accommodate them. This mat met both those expectations even during a very sweaty hot yoga session. I’m now a total convert. Also, it’s a woman-owned small business! Just another reason I’m thrilled to support them. You can check out their mats (and other products on Instagram @gocleveryoga and shop for yourself here. Use code PHDYOGI for 15% off!

Malas With Love

I was lucky enough to get a mala from Malas With Love as a gift for my birthday and fell completely in love. It has become my favorite mala for use during meditation, my asana practice, as well as to wear as a necklace or bracelet. Each mala is handmade and created by two amazing yogis locally in San Diego, which is awesome because supporting small local business is something I really strive to do. You can see their beautiful malas on their Instagram @malaswithlove and shop for your perfect match on their website. Use code PHDYOGI15 for a discount!

Pi Yoga Pants

I met Larissa, the founder of Pi Yoga Pants, at a local San Diego yoga event in 2016 and immediately fell in love with her pants. They're lightweight and super soft making the comfortable for yoga (especially outdoors) as well as lounging around the house. I bought a pair on the spot and pretty much didn't take them off for a week straight afterwards. Besides being a local small business, 10% of the profits from Pi Yoga Pants go to sea turtle conservation! Great pants, great cause - a winning combo. You can check out their pants on their Instagram @piyogapants and shop for them on their website. Use code piyogapants.0137 for a discount!
